Description

Kim is a self-employed batik artist. Batik is an ancient "resist" method of dyeing and/or discharging color from fabric using melted wax as the resist medium. He uses high quality cotton fabric and cold water, fiber-reactive dyes that chemically bond with the fabric. Unlike painting, which achieves surface design only, batik using dye goes through to the back making the design nearly the same on the back as on the front. This makes his batik creations ideal for hanging in windows on banners, creating a stained glass effect. Because he treats his batiks with a UV protectant they retain their vibrant color for a greater length of time. His batik creations are also ideal for framing, either as a "painting" or in a lightbox hanging on your wall.
