How to Find a Local Art Gallery

Whether you’re looking to buy art for your home, or looking to exhibit and sell your latest work, there are a number of ways to refine your search for an art gallery conveniently located near you.

Shopping Centers: With the economy in such straits, it’s not an uncommon sight to see empty storefronts quickly adopted and converted into a simple art gallery. These allow for local artists to get an easy platform to showcase their work, although such galleries might not be there for long once business picks up again.

Fairs: While not every town or city might have an art gallery, there are often local art fairs in a community park or town square. Consult your local newspaper or city webpage to find out when the next one is available.

Art Blogs: Both artists and gallery owners will have their own blogs to discuss the tricks and tools of their trade. Check their posts to see what galleries and art exhibits they’re talking about and which might be in your area.

Metropolitan Areas: The larger and more elaborate a city tends to be, the more likely that you’ll find high-end art and entertainment centers. Major cities like San Francisco, New York, and Chicago will have several major museums and dozens of minor galleries open to the interested public.

Online Directories: For comprehensive lists of art galleries, there’re plenty of online directories to choose from. Two of the safest bets are Fine Art America and ArtFinding.com.

Whether you’re using the Web, personal connections, or just a stroll through your local art district, you have every chance of finding the right gallery to fit your needs.
