Some of the Most Famous Stunning Glass Artwork in the World

Glass has been used in the world of arts for many years.  Some of the first cultures to have started to do this were the Venetians, where some of the most beautiful stunning glass art work can still be found.  However, the Venetians do not have a monopoly on the world of glass artwork and there are some truly amazing pieces all over the world.  It is an often misunderstood form of art, which means that many people overlook it when they are sightseeing.  Perhaps next time you are in a new location, you can use the opportunity to take a look at the amazing glass artwork that surrounds you, there is bound to be some.

Cascade

Cascade is a stunning piece of glass artwork found in the Adelaide Botanical Garden, Australia.  It was created by Sergio Redegalli.  The work has 500 precision cut pieces of glass.  Each of these is 6mm in size and made of clear glass.  They have been glued to a cascading wave.  The effect is incredibly beautiful.

The Kimono

The Kimono is the largest structure in the world made of woven glass and weighs 125 pounds.  It was created using 19 pieces of woven glass, placed onto a metal mannequin.  Three further life size kimonos are currently in construction.

Fireworks of Glass

Fireworks of Glass was made by Dale Chihuly, who has created various other pieces of glass artwork.  This particular one is 43 foot tall and it actually rises above the ceiling of the Children’s Museum of Indianapolis.  Chihuly has also made the biggest glass chandelier on record, which can be found I the Las Vegas Bellagio Hotel.

Chihuly mainly works on commission (the chandelier was a commission piece), which means that you can find his work in the most unusual places.  For instance, visit the Kew Gardens in London to see The Sun, which is part of the Gardens of Glass exhibition.  The Sun is 13 feet in height and was created using 1,000 different objects made from glass.

The Venetians

As said previously, glass artwork started with the Venetians.  Their Murano glass wear, developed on the island of Burano (Venice) still attracts a huge range of customers, willing to pay exorbitant prices for these works of art.

Watching a glass artist at work is an amazing and mesmerizing experience that you should try to see.  It is likely that you will find yourself reasonably addicted to glass artwork as well.
